The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Trailers

Several new trailers and teasers made debuts in theaters recently, some hot, others awful. Click on the film title to view the goods, but just beware the holiday sneer of "Fred Claus." Drumroll, please ...

The Good
George Hickenlooper's "Factory Girl" (opens Dec. 27) follows Andy Warhol's muse, American socialite and debutante Edie Sedgwick (Sienna Miller), into her 1960s limelight as a "youthquaker" and up to her death from drug overdose in 1971. Hayden Christensen ("Shattered Glass") stars as American icon Bob Dylan.

David Fincher ("Seven") haunts an old beat, the riddle-rich manhunt for a notorious serial killer, in 1970s San Francisco with "Zodiac" (opens March 2). Robert Downey Jr., Jake Gyllenhaal, Chloe Sevingy and Mark Ruffalo star in the moody thriller. Fincher's a whiz with the camera, and the trailer already bears that out.

Steve Carell reprises his role from the god-awful smash-hit comedy "Bruce Almighty" as pompous local television newscaster, and on-air blabbermouth, Evan Baxter in "Evan Almighty" (opens June 22). In Tom Shadyac's sequel, God (Morgan Freeman, again) commands Evan, now a congressman in Virginia, to build an ark to save the species from an apocalyptic flood. Chuckle worthy.

The Bad
Sylvester Stallone's resurrection of "Rocky Balboa" (opens Dec. 25) reveals more plot (if there is, in fact, any really to reveal) in the trailer, a much less impactful hit than the teaser. Far from a knockout.

The Ugly
The teaser for "Fred Claus" (opens Nov. 9) with Vince Vaughn as Santa Claus' surly brother Fred. The fact that Paul Giamatti stars as Santa only makes it more painful to watch. A sad, sad, sad excuse for a teaser ... and probably a movie, too.
