"Based on a True Story" Moratorium

I don't know about you, but I'm sick of trailers and ads for inspirational ilk with "based on a true story" as a hook. If you saw any of the movies sold as "inspirational," you'd discover that those stories aren't as special as sold, no matter the odds. We've seen it once, we've seen it again and again and again. I demand a moratorium on Hollywood's current kick of inspiration and, instead, have tributes paid to true stories, particularly in the wide world of sports, with documentaries of more gritty substance ("On the Ropes," "Hoop Dreams," "Murderball"). If the true stories aren't dramatically original, then write an inspirational story that's not a predicate of a real person's: in fact, a true fiction ("Rocky Balboa" is not a prime example, but mushy, and I mean mushy, nostalgia). The recent glut of indistinctive inspirational slop in question: "Miracle," "Remember the Titans," "Coach Carter," "The Hurricane," "Radio," "Glory Road," "Invincible," "We Are Marshall," "The Rookie," "Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story" (it's a joke, pay attention), "Friday Night Lights" and "Gridiron Gang." Inspiration may not be superabundant, but if you're hungry for it, you'd be better off with a fortune cookie.
