The Bulletin: Scorsese's In Demand

Unfortunately for Hollywood, you can't replicate Martin Scorsese (left). Warner Bros. Pictures will develop an adaptation of Brian Selznick's "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" in the hopes Scorsese, in the glow of his Academy Award glory for Best Director for "The Departed," will direct, as Paramount Pictures, meanwhile, develops a project for the illustrious auteur: "The Long Play," an epic about the music industry, reports Variety. At Warner Bros., John Logan ("The Aviator") will write the script for "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," and Grant King will produce. In the children's mystery, a mysterious clockmaker's son survives inside the walls of a busy 1930s Paris train terminal. At Paramount, William Monahan, with his Best Adapted Screenplay laurels for "The Departed," will write the script for the "The Long Play," and Mick Jagger and Victoria Pearman will produce. Scorsese has yet to determine his next project, but his options include: An update of "Silence," about Jesuit priests in Japan; an adaptation of Eric Jager's historical thriller "The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal and Trial by Combat in Medieval France"; and a potential sequel to "The Departed," from a script Monahan will write. Scorsese's documentary about The Rolling Stones, with footage shot at the Beacon Theater last autumn, is currently in post-production.

Monahan Will Have DiCaprio 'Confess'
Busy at the typewriter, William Monahan ("The Departed") will write and Leonardo DiCaprio will star in an update of Hong Kong's "Confessions of Pain" for Warner Bros. Pictures, reports The Hollywood Reporter. The mystery thriller assigns a police detective and a private eye to the murder investigation of the police officer's father-in-law. Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Doug Davison and DiCaprio will produce. Monahan will executive produce.

Anderson's new excursion into animation with artist Henry Selick ("James and the Giant Peach," "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou") will follow a clever fox's attempts to outwit a crop of villainous farmers. Allison Abbate and Jeremy Dawson will produce.

De Niro Back For 'Little Fockers'
Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal's Tribeca Productions will renew a deal with Universal Pictures to produce "Little Fockers," a sequel to Jay Roach's "Meet the Fockers" (2004) and "Meet the Parents" (2000), reports Variety. Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Blythe Danner, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, De Niro will likely be back on board to star, and Roach to direct.
