Howard May Reveal the Hidden
Ron Howard might direct a remake of Michael Haneke's French mystery thriller "Cache" (2005) for Universal Pictures, reports Variety. Brian Grazer would produce for Imagine Entertainment with Plum Pictures' Celine Rattray as executive producer. Randy Simon, Galt Niederhoffer and Daniela Taplin Lundberg would co-produce. In the original, mysteriously voyeuristic videotapes emotionally terrorize a husband (Daniel Auteuil) and wife (Juliette Binoche). Haneke won the Best Director prize for "Cache" at the Cannes Film Festival in 2005. The American version would be set in the U.S. and amplify the suspense and consequences, so, in effect, strip out the best part of Haneke's thriller, the exquisite subtlety of a setup that disappointingly corkscrews into an anticlimactic political polemic.
