To calm the rampant gossip, director Tim Story confirms on MySpace that Galactus (left) will surface in "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" (June 15). "One thing for sure, you can expect to see [Galactus]," Story reports. "We haven't finished the design for [Galactus] so be careful what you read and believe. It will be pretty powerful. I'm having a lot of fun with the concept, and believe me, most will be satisfied." Galactus, an enormously powerful cosmic entity, feeds on the energy of planets to survive. So, I guess Galactus will threaten to devour Earth in the wake of the arrival of intergalactic herald The Silver Surfer. Nifty.
Boyle Towers Over Thriller
Danny Boyle ("28 Days Later") will direct "Ponte Tower," a thriller set entirely inside the Johannesburg, South Africa, skyscraper, one of the largest in Africa, reports Variety. The 54-story tower was a symbol of white affluence under apartheid when built in 1975, but the urban landmark has since become a haven for gangs. Michael Thomas will write the script, a loose adaptation of Norman Ohler's novel "Ponte City."
I Read Dogs ... and Dead People
Lasse Hallstrom ("Chocolat," "The Cider House Rules") will direct Columbia Pictures' romantic comedy "Sammy," reports The Hollywood Reporter. In "Sammy," a woman with the perverse ability to read the minds of animals meets a man with the perverse ability to read the minds of dead people. Cute. Delia Ephron wrote the script. Laurence Mark, Leslie Holleran and Ephron will produce.
D.C. Scandal Goes Hollywood
Warner Bros. Pictures will develop a picture about Valerie Plame and Ambassador Joseph Wilson, the CIA analyst and bureaucrat drawn into a D.C. scandal, reports Variety. White House officials allegedly told news sources of Plame's undercover status as a CIA agent in an attempt to discredit Wilson, her husband. Wilson wrote a 2003 New York Times opinion piece that said the Bush administration did, in fact, manipulate intelligence about weapons of mass destruction to justify the invasion of Iraq. Ouch. Akiva Goldsman, and Jerry and Janet Zucker will produce. Jez and John Butterworth will write the script.
Travolta Reunites With Becker
John Travolta will star with wife Kelly Preston and daughter Ella Blue in "Old Dogs," a comedy about fatherhood, for director Walt Becker ("Wild Hogs") and Touchstone Pictures, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Andrew Panay, Peter Abrams and Robert L. Levy will produce.
Mike White's Best Friend
The trailer for Mike White's new comedy "Year of the Dog" with Molly Shannon, Peter Sarsgaard, John C. Reilly and Laura Dern is available at Yahoo! Movies.
