The Bulletin: More Cast in "Speed Racer"

John Goodman and Susan Sarandon will star as Mom and Pops Racer, parents of Speed, in Andy and Larry Wachowski's "Speed Racer" (May 9, 2008), an adaptation of Tatsuo Yoshida's cult anime of the 1960s, for Warner Bros. Pictures, reports Variety. Emile Hirsch (“Lords of Dogtown,” “Alpha Dog”) will star as Speed, pilot of the Mach 5. Joel Silver ("The Matrix") will produce. Production will begin in Germany in the summer.

Hillcoat to Direct 'The Road'
John Hillcoat (“The Proposition”) will direct “The Road,” an adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s novel about a father-son journey across a post-apocalyptic landscape, reports Variety. Joe Penhall (“Enduring Love”) will adapt, and Nick Wechsler and Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz will produce.

Breslin, Foster Get Lost
Abigail Breslin ("Little Miss Sunshine") and Jodie Foster will star in "Nim's Island," an adaptation of Wendy Orr and Kevin Millard's children's novel about a scientist's daughter lost on a secret isle, for 20th Century Fox and Walden Media, reports Variety. Screenwriters Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin (2008's "Journey 3-D") will direct. Production will begin in the summer.

Jordan in a 'Heart-Shaped Box'
Neil Jordan ("The Crying Game," "The Brave One") will adapt and direct "Heart-Shaped Box," an adaptation of Joe Hill's novel about a macabre rock star with a spooky suit, at Warner Bros., reports Variety. Akiva Goldsman ("A Beautiful Mind") will produce.

Drew, 'He's Just Not That Into You'
Ken Kwapis (TV's "The Office," "The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants") will direct "He's Just Not That Into You," an adaptation of Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo's bestseller about relationships, at New Line Cinema, reports Variety. Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein ("Never Been Kissed") will write the script. Nancy Juvonen and Drew Barrymore, with Flower Films, will produce
