John McTiernan's "Die Hard" (1988) tops Entertainment Weekly's list of "The 25 Greatest Action Movies of All Time." For the remainder of the list, visit EW.com.
I agree "Die Hard" (No. 1) is the absolute best, and I second the inclusion of "Aliens" (No. 2), "The Road Warrior" (No. 4), "Hard-Boiled" (No. 9), "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" (No. 10), "Speed" (No. 11), "Predator" (No. 22) and "Lethal Weapon" (No. 24), but I disagree with the classifications of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (No. 3), "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (No. 16) and "Saving Private Ryan" (No. 8) in the same genus or species of cinema as "RoboCop." To categorize a list of 25 is quite a stretch given the scarcity of excellence in the genre, and evident with the admittance of Brad Bird's "The Incredibles" (No. 25), a worthy spectacle, but hardly a viable member of the hardcore club of "yippee-ki-yay" and "hasta la vista, baby." The recognition of the generic mediocrity of "The Bourne Supremacy" (No. 17); the failure of any James Bond spectacle (except for the possibility of maybe "Casino Royale") to perfect the formula, even "Goldfinger" (No. 19); and the magazine's tendency to overrate "The Matrix" (No. 5!) typify a surplus of goodwill. As for The Scout's list, just for the hell of it, read further.
