The Bulletin: Vaughn to Wield Hammer on 'Thor'

Matthew Vaughn ("Stardust," "Layer Cake") will direct "Thor," an adaptation of Stan Lee, Larry Lieber and Jack Kirby's comic about a god sent to Earth to save civilization, reports Variety. Mark Protosevich ("I Am Legend," "The Cell") wrote the script. Production will start in the next few months.

'Voltron' in Development at Fox
In the fallout of Michael Bay's "Transformers," a commercial juggernaut with $300 million in U.S. receipts, 20th Century Fox will further exploit a new trend with the development of "Voltron: Defender of the Universe," an adaptation of — drumroll, please — a children's TV series, comic book and series of toys of the 1980s with intergalactic robots, reports Variety. Mark Gordon will produce with Lawrence Inglee and Jordan Wynn, and Mark Costa and Ford Oelman will executive produce. Justin Marks will write the script, in which a crew of astronauts spans the universe to neutralize menace in the cockpits of mechanical lions.

Mr. Big is Back
Chris Noth will star as Mr. Big in a film version of Darren Star's "Sex and the City," reports Variety. Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis will co-star and Michael Patrick King, executive producer of the television show, will direct for New Line Cinema and HBO. King will produce with Parker, John Melfi and Star. King wrote the script. Production will start in September in New York City.
