Martin Scorsese will direct "Shutter Island," an adaptation of Dennis Lehane's novel about a manhunt for a murderess, reports Variety. Leonardo DiCaprio will star as U.S. Marshal Teddy Daniels. Laeta Kalogridis will write the script. Mike Medavoy, Arnold Messer, Brad Fischer and Scorsese will produce. Lehane, Kalogridis and Louis Phillips will executive produce. Production will start in March.
Hackford Will Direct 'Ranch'
Taylor Hackford ("White Nights," "Ray") will direct "Love Ranch," reports Variety. Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci will star as Sally and Joe Conforte, proprietors of the Mustang Ranch, the first legal house of prostitution in Nevada. Production starts in January in Albuquerque, N.M. Mark Jacobson wrote the script. Hackford, Lou DiBella, David Bergstein and Marty Katz will produce.
More Join 'The Changeling'
Jeffrey Donovan, Colm Feore and John Malkovich will star with Angelina Jolie in Clint Eastwood's "The Changeling" (Nov. 7, 2008), reports The Hollywood Reporter. Donovan will star as a police captain; Feore, the chief of police; and Malkovich, a reverend. Michael Straczynski (TV's "Babylon 5") wrote the script, in which a Los Angeles mother, her son the victim of an abduction, suspects the child back in her arms, is, in fact, not her own and confronts a conspiracy of corruption. Ron Howard, once on the shortlist as director, and Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment will co-produce with Rob Lorenz of Malpaso Productions.
Thornton to Star in 'Eagle Eye'
Billy Bob Thornton will star with Shia LeBeouf in "Eagle Eye" (Oct. 10, 2008), in which a slacker and a single mother must join a sleeper cell in order to extricate themselves of erroneous terrorist ties, reports Moviehole. Michelle Monaghan and Rosario Dawson will co-star. D.J. Caruso ("Disturbia") will direct.
Cage is 'The Wrestler'
Nicolas Cage is in talks to star in "The Wrester," now in development at Darren Aronofksy's Protozoa Pictures, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Robert Siegel wrote the script, in which weary professional wrestler Randy "The Ram" Robinson, in retirement, entertains the prospect of a rematch with The Ayatollah, an old nemesis. Aronofsky ("Requiem for a Dream") will direct.
