The Bulletin: Bello Replaces Weisz in 'Mummy'

Maria Bello (“A History of Violence”) will replace Rachel Weisz as Evelyn Carnahan O’Connell in “The Mummy 3” (July 11, 2008), reports Variety. Brendan Fraser, Luke Ford, Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh will co-star. Rob Cohen (“Stealth,” “The Fast and the Furious”) will direct for Universal Pictures, and Stephen Sommers (“Van Helsing”) and Bob Ducsay, with Sean Daniel and Jim Jacks, will produce. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (“Shanghai Noon”) wrote the script. Li (“Hero”) will star as an ancient emperor of China and an abominable mummy the O’Connells awaken in the forbidden catacombs of the Himalayas.

Cage to Star as Capone
Nicolas Cage will star as a younger Al Capone in Brian De Palma's "The Untouchables: Capone Rising," a prequel to De Palma's own "The Untouchables" (1987), reports MTV. Robert De Niro was memorably cast as Capone in the original. Principal photography begins in October.

Roth to Star in 'Hulk 2'
Tim Roth ("Planet of the Apes") will star as KGB agent Emil Blonsky, a.k.a. Abomination, in "The Incredible Hulk" (June 13, 2008), Louis Leterrier's sequel to Ang Lee's "The Hulk" (2003), for Universal Pictures, reports Variety. Edward Norton is cast as Dr. Bruce Banner, a.k.a. The Hulk, and Liv Tyler as Betty Ross. Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Kevin Feige will produce, and Jim Van Wyck, David Maisei, Stan Lee and Arad will executive produce.

Hackford Bids 'Good Luck'
Taylor Hackford ("Ray") will direct "Good Luck, Mr. Anthony," a dramatic account about Lawrence Anthony, the owner of a game preserve in South Africa, snuck into Iraq to rescue the wildlife in the Baghdad Zoo, reports Variety. Aryman Bernstein wrote the script with Terry Jastrow. Bernstein will produce, and Charlie Lyons will executive produce.

'Austin Powers' to Return
Mike Myers will develop another "Austin Powers," reports MTV. "We're developing a fourth [movie], entirely from Dr. Evil's point of view," Myers said. "That is part of what I've been doing in the last little while." Meanwhile, Marco Schnabel, a second unit director on "Austin Powers in Goldmember," will direct Mike Myers in "The Love Guru" (June 20, 2008) at Paramount Pictures. Myers wrote the script with Graham Gordy and will star as Pitka, an eccentric couples counselor. Michael De Luca ("Ghost Rider") will produce.

Sonnenfeld Opens 'Box'
Barry Sonnenfeld ("Men in Black," "RV") is in negotiations to direct "The Box," a modern update on Pandora's Box, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Richard Lewis will produce, and Evan Spiliotopoulos will write the script for 20th Century Fox.

Goyer to Direct "Magneto"
David Goyer ("The Invisible") will direct "Magneto," the "X-Men" spinoff in development at 20th Century Fox, reports Variety. Goyer will rewrite Sheldon Turner's ("The Longest Yard") script. No word yet if Ian McKellan will return as the magnetic villain of the original trilogy.

'Overachievers' at Universal
Universal Pictures will develop "The Overachievers," Alexandra Robbins' nonfiction in which high school students navigate the pitfalls of the college application process, into a comedy, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Brian Gatewood and Alex Tanaka will write the script and Shawn Levy ("Night at the Museum") will produce.

Wilson as 'Henry Poole'
Luke Wilson ("Vacancy") will star in Mark Pellington's "Henry Poole is Here," in which a man with only six weeks to live disappears into suburbia, reports Variety. Albert Torres wrote the script. Production begins in Los Angeles in the summer.
