Tim Allen will star as a Hollywood action star with marital problems in David Mamet's "Redbelt," about a Jiu-Jitsu master prey to a seedy West Los Angeles underworld cabal, at Sony Pictures Classics, reports Variety. Chiwetel Ejiofor ("Children of Men," "Inside Man"), Emily Mortimer, Alice Braga, Joe Mantegna, Rodrigo Santoro, Ricky Jay, David Paymer and Rebecca Pidgeon will co-star, Chrisann Verges will produce. Production begins in Los Angeles in May.
Toback on Tyson
James Toback ("Two Girls and a Guy," "The Pickup Artist") will direct a documentary about the life of former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, reports Variety. "The point is not to polish his image or make a cinematic apology, but rather to get a firsthand look at a very complex and epic story," Toback said. "He was honest about all the things that have highlighted his life, from the bitter divorce, the ear-biting, prison, to his becoming a sex addict. He is self-aware, smart and a totally fractured personality, and he made himself completely vulnerable." Damon Bingham, Harlan Werner, Tyson and Toback will produce.
Spielberg, Jackson Merge for 'Tintin'
Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, with the use of digital technology at New Zealand’s Weta Digital, will faithfully adapt Georges Remi’s, rather Herge’s, Belgian comic strip “The Adventures of Tintin” into a trilogy, reports Variety. Spielberg and Jackson will each direct one installment, with no word yet on a filmmaker to direct the third. Kathleen Kennedy, Spielberg and Jackson will produce for DreamWorks Animation. “The Adventures of Tintin” chronicles a tenacious junior reporter, with able assistant Snowy, a canine, in pursuit of hot scoops.
Murphy Oversees 'Fantasy Island'
Eddie Murphy will star as an enigmatic overseer of a mysterious isle in "Fantasy Island," an adaptation of Aaron Spelling's TV series (1978-84) with Ricardo Montalban and Herve Villechaize, for Columbia Pictures, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Jay Scherick and David Ronn ("Norbit") will write the script. John Davis, Marc Toberoff, Leonard Goldberg and Lucas Foster will produce.
Benioff on Bruckheimer's 'Gemini Man'

Jason Statham ("Crank") will star in "Death Race," a remake of Roger Corman's 1975 cult classic "Death Race 2000" about an ultraviolent expressway marathon from New York to Los Angeles with David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Paul W.S. Anderson ("Alien Vs. Predator") will write and direct. Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner will produce.
'Choke' on Palahniuk
ChuckPalahniuk.net reports Sam Rockwell ("Confessions of a Dangerous Mind") will star in "Choke," an adaptation of Chuck Palahniuk's novel in which a con artist, with an unhealthy disposition to asphyxiate on cue, frauds strangers out of wealth, but more importantly, compassion. Clark Gregg wrote the script ("What Lies Beneath") and will direct.
Hardwicke's Adventures 'Under The Bridge'
Catherine Hardwicke ("Thirteen") is in negotiations to direct "Under The Bridge," an adaptation of Rebecca Godfrey's true account of the brutal murder of Reena Virk at a British Columbia high school in 1997, reports Variety. Reese Witherspoon will produce.
Cusack, De Bont Have 'Stopping Power'
John Cusack will star as a test pilot in a race to rescue his daughter in "Stopping Power," reports The Hollywood Reporter. Jan De Bont ("Speed," "Twister") will direct. Skip Woods ("Swordfish") and Eric Red ("The Hitcher") will write the script.
'Daybreakers' Nabs Hawke
Ethan Hawke will star as a researcher in "Daybreakers," a futuristic thriller in which vampires attempt to save humanity in order to salvage the blood supply, reports The Hollywood Reporter. 'Office' Star Seeks 'Experience'

Latifah in 'All of Me' Remake
Queen Latifah will star in a remake of Carl Reiner's "All of Me" (1984) with Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin, reports Variety. Adam Shankman ("Hairspray") and Jennifer Gibgot will produce with Ira Posansky, and Latifah will executive produce with Shakim Compere. In "All of Me," a dying heiress' soul inhabits the body of a successful attorney.
Williams Joins Travolta in 'Dogs'
Robin Williams will star with John Travolta and Kelly Preston in "Old Dogs," a comedy business partners as reluctant babysitters, reports Variety. Walt Becker ("Wild Hogs") will direct for Touchstone Pictures. David Diamond and David Weissman wrote the script. Andrew Panay, Peter Abrams and Robert L. Levy will produce, and Garrett Grant will executive produce. Production will begin in July. Travolta and Preston's daughter Ella Blue co-stars.
Crime Noir for Mann, DiCaprio
Michael Mann ("Miami Vice," "Heat") hopes to next direct a period noir, with Leonardo DiCaprio to star as a corrupt Hollywood private eye, reports Variety. John Logan ("The Aviator") wrote the script, about the murder of a starlet's beau on an MGM soundstage. New Line Cinema recently bid $100 million for the project, short of $120 million sought. Production will begin in February.
Miller Replaces Lohan in 'Lives'
Sienna Miller ("Factory Girl") will replace Lindsay Lohan in "The Best Time of Our Lives," about a rivalry between women over Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, reports Variety. Keira Knightley, Cillian Murphy and Matthew Rhys co-star. John Maybury directs, with production to begin in May in Wales. Playwright Sharman Macdonald wrote the script. Rebeckah Gilbertson and Sarah Radclyffe will produce.
Clooney to Produce 'Crisis'
Warner Bros. Pictures will develop a dramatic remake of Rachel Boynton's political documentary "Our Brand is Crisis," about the dangers of the globalization of democracy, reports Variety. George Clooney will produce and possibly direct, and Peter Straughan will write the script. "Our Brand is Crisis" documents the Bolivian presidential election of 2002, as candidate Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada (a.k.a. Goni) hires James Carville's political consultants to secure a victory.
Alas, Another Frank Miller Project
Warner Bros. Pictures will develop Frank Miller's "Ronin," a DC Comics property about a rogue samurai warrior's search for a mythical sword in New York City, reports Variety. Sylvain White ("Stomp The Yard") will direct in similar scope to Miller and Zack Snyder's recent "300." Gianni Nunnari and Nick Wechsler will produce, and Craig Flores and Miller will executive produce. "Ronin" is "one of Frank Miller's earliest and best graphic novel creations, one that has long been a cult graphic novel," White told the trade. "There is a classic good-evil struggle between the samurai and the demon."
Perry, Swank Set 'Laws'
Matthew Perry (TV's "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) and Hilary Swank will star in "Laws of Motion," a comedy about suburban dysfunction, reports The Hollywood Reporter. Ben Foster ("Alpha Dog") is in talks to star. Daniela Taplin Lundberg, Celine Rattray and Galt Niederhoffer will produce with Jana Edelbaum and Swank. No word yet on a director.
