Christopher Nolan will shoot several sequences in "The Dark Knight" (July 18, 2008) in the IMAX format, reports USA Today. "There's simply nothing like seeing a movie that way," Nolan says. "It's more immersive for the audience. I wish I could shoot the entire thing this way." For Nolan, IMAX is the future in the cinema experience. "You can't do this on any home theater," Nolan says. Deschanel in Shyamalan's 'Happening'
Zooey Deschanel ("Mumford," "Bridge to Terabithia") will star with Mark Wahlberg in M. Night Shyamalan's ecological apocalypto "The Happening" (June 13, 2008), about a cataclysmic environmental crisis that positions man at war with nature, reports Variety. Sam Mercer and Berry Mendel (“The Sixth Sense”) will produce with Shyamalan for 20th Century Fox, and production will begin in Philadelphia in August with a budget of about $57 million.
Witherspoon in 'Midnight' Remake
Reese Witherspoon will star in a remake of Mitchell Leisen's "Midnight" (1939), in which a destitute expatriate, penniless in Paris, is a pawn in an aristrocrat's scheme to uncouple a gigolo and his spouse, reports Variety. Michael Arndt ("Little Miss Sunshine") wrote the script. Mary Parent and Scott Stuber will produce with Witherspoon and Jennifer Simpson for Universal Pictures. Claudette Colbert, Don Ameche John Barrymore were stars in the original, and Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder co-wrote the script.
Mirren Heads for 'Gaza'
Helen Mirren ("The Queen") will star in "Gaza," in which a Jewish woman's journalist daughter, in a relationship with a Palestinian, is shot to death in the strife-torn Gaza Strip, reports The Times Online. Frank Deasy (BBC's "Prime Suspect") and Philip Martin were due in Gaza in April to resume research, but the abduction of Alan Johnston, a BBC correspondent, was a signal a shoot in Gaza might be too dangerous. Jordan will double as the Gaza Strip.
Eckhart to Start 'Traveling'
Aaron Eckhart ("Thank You for Smoking") will star in "Traveling," in which a widower's book about grief becomes a cultural phenomenon and reinvents the author as a charismatic therapist still unable to cope with the loss of his wife, reports Variety. Brandon Camp will direct, and co-wrote the script with Mike Thompson. Mary Parent and Scott Stuber will produce with Camp and Thompson for Universal Pictures. Production will begin early next year.

The trailer for Peter and Bobby Farrelly's remake of Elaine May's "The Heartbreak Kid" (Oct. 5) is available in Quicktime at Yahoo! Movies.
