The Bulletin: Manhattan Cast in 'Watchmen'

Billy Crudup ("Almost Famous," "Mission: Impossible III" and, a personal favorite, "Jesus' Son") will star as Doctor Manhattan in Zack Snyder's "Watchmen," an adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' deconstructive apocalyptic epic, reports CHUD.com. (The Scout's Pick for Doctor Manhattan: Liev Schreiber) In the novel, a lab accident grants Doctor Manhattan (a.k.a. Jon Osterman) superhuman strength, telekinesis, the ability to control matter and teleport, and immortality. Doctor Manhattan departs Earth in an existential crisis. Jackie Earle Haley ("Little Children") will co-star as Rorschach, per a previous report via SuperHeroHype.com. For more of The Scout's "Watchmen" cast recommendations, revisit the March 30 issue. (The Scout's "Watchmen" Picks: 1 out of 2, so far.)

'Dozen' Remake in Script Development
Zak Penn ("The Incredible Hulk," "X-Men: The Last Stand") will rewrite a script for an update of Robert Aldrich's "The Dirty Dozen" (1967), in which a major conscripts twelve military prisoners for a dangerous mission to infiltrate a Nazi chateau in World War II, reports Variety. Scott Rosenberg ("Con Air") wrote the first draft with Andre Nemec and Josh Appelbaum (TV's "Alias"). Joel Silver ("The Matrix," "Speed Racer") will produce for Warner Bros.

Six Join 'Swing Vote'
Dennis Hopper, Nathan Lane, Kelsey Grammer, Stanley Tucci, George Lopez and Madeline Carroll will star with Kevin Costner in "Swing Vote," a political comedy in which a apathetic citizen's vote will decide a presidential election, reports Variety. Joshua Michael Stern will direct. Jason Richman wrote the script. Jim Wilson will produce with Costner. Production begins July 23 in Albuquerque, N.M.

Mark Your Calendar
Gerry Marshall's "Georgia Rule" (D) with Lindsay Lohan, Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman, will be available for rental and purchase Sept. 4; "The Wind That Shakes The Barley," Sept. 4
