David Yates' "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (C), with $44.75 million in ticket receipts for Wednesday, set a record for the biggest Wednesday sum ever to best the $40.4 million total of Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 2" on Wednesday, June 30, 2004. Count includes $12 million in midnight exhibitions. The $44 million debut of "Order of the Phoenix," too, was enough to sail past "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," with $42.9 million in ticket receipts for Friday, May 25, to claim the fifth-best first day in history.
